What did everyone else think of each episode of Doctor who?
From: Adam
Episode: New Earth Rating: 5/10
Episode one of new earth has been shown, and to be honest, I found it to be a bit of a let down. For some reason it didn't quite feel right, the villains were good, as were the special effects, but the plot didn't flow, it jumped, and it took too long to get moving fast enoungh, then it went too fast. down, then up, then down again, and constantly switching bodies made it too silly for my liking, and it looked too bright, even though it was a hospital. The writers went too far to make it funny, and not enough effort went into making a script that really went nicely. Not to say it was a bad episode, just that we know that casandra could swap places, no need to over do it. The actors were good in their roles of casandra and I think they were convincing, It must be one of the hardest things they can do, not act as their character, but someone elses. I always judge a episode on how many emotions it makes the viewer go through, like TPOTW made you laugh, but soon it made you sad, from the death of the 9th Doctor. This episode did this but not as well as other episodes I think.

Episode: New Earth
I miss Christopher Eccleston! He was much cooler than the "new new doctor", and somehow the chemistry between him and Rose was more convincing. The plot was okay, nothing mindblowingly good really, but perhaps it will take a few episodes for this series to "warm up".
Furthermore, (I love that word!) I know what you mean about the plot being a bit "jumpy", it seemed almost as if it had been written to showcase the talents of the actors, rather than as a convincing story, i.e. first the Doctor was happy, then sad, then angry, then excited ... and I didn't find the plot particularly intiguing or gripping. I was hardly sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going on. However, there were some strengths: some nice bits of humour, the acting of both Billie Piper and David Tennant as Cassandra, and, as usual, the theme tune!! Can't wait to see the Cybermen and K9 make a re-appearance!
Yeah I think your right. As you say, its good to have the theme tune, The BBC orchastra does a fantastic job, and I love the "middle 8"

Episode: Tooth and Claw
In brief, I think it is fair to say it was a hundred times better than last week. The story itself was better, as were the actros, as well as the special effects. The monks at the start were my personal favourite, although trying to get Queen Victoria to say "We are not amused" was funny. (I suppose this means Doctor owes Rose a tennar!) Also, "Sir Doctor of Tardis" and "Dame Rose of the Powell Estate"! It also, rather not too subtley laid the foundations for "Torchwood", that was the only part I think was a bit over-done. Apart from that, a very good episode, and after a bit of a shaky start I think Doctor Who is back on form.

Episode: Tooth and Claw Rating: 9/10
Tonights episode was very good, even if it was spoiled by the football(boo hiss, and thats not due to the result!) but very good considering it was HM Queen Elizibeth's 80th birthday the other day, which really impressed me, the bit about the queen (and royal family) being were-wolves. Otherwise the episode was very dark, and chilling. The special effects had done a great job again. The telescope thing was visable from miles off though, perhaps they could have made it more subtle by showing other unfinished inventions?

Episode: School Reunion Rating: 4/10
This episode was very rushed and the charaters were very shallow. Anthony Head's acting was, lets say,
Fantastic! How could he manage to make a villain so interesting when it has so little screen time? Sarah Jane was absolutely pathetic, is that how she was in the old series? I know the idea is that she's a old charater and to find out about her you need to watch the old series, but without that she came accross very 1 dimensional. It used a lot of the Doctor's past, and the Doctor as a teacher really did work(how do you travel faster than light? lol). The ending was far too rushed for me, it was a case of "of there aliens lets cover them in their own oil" end of story. I think it would work better as a two parter.

Episode: School Reunion
A little harsh, wouldn’t you say Adam? You must remember that this episode was really supposed to be a message to the fans of the classic series: “We haven’t forgotten you. Here, have a whole episode!” Yes, I would agree the story was lacking a bit in parts, and was rushed, but the alien story was a background, against which was set the main story: the return of Sara-Jane Smith. The point of this episode was not to give you a good monsters-aliens-battle-evil story, but to make you think about what happens to the Doctor’s companions after they part ways, and why he has to leave them behind, and in that purpose, I think it succeeded.

Episode: The Girl in the Fireplace Rating: 8/10
The Doctor's latest adventure was the one that I was looking forward to the least. Why? because it couldn't match that of Tooth and claw. Now yes it wasn't as good as tooth and claw, which was brilliant, but it wasnt crap either, it was more of a high middle episode, it didn't help that I missed the first minute, but I picked it up. Yes the horse did come accross silly, but it had a point, "Whats there a horse on a space ship for?", "you think thats silly why is 18th century France doing on a 51st century space ship". But it was quite good though, now the cybermen, thats a different thing ...

Episode: The Girl in the Fireplace
This weeks episode was entitled “The Girl in the Fireplace”, and it soon became clear that the eponymous “girl” was Madame de Pompadour. The story seemed to gel together quite well, as with the usual drama there was quite a lot of comedy brought in, especially the horse. But, the Doctor’s relationship with Madame de Pompadour was a bit uncharacteristic: I’m still not sure why he develops a particular attachment to her, although she has seen inside his mind. Here we get a brief hint at the Doctor’s early life, he was lonely as a child as well. Another reference to the his loneliness indicates it may be part of the build up to the series finale, where the Face of Boe’s secret may finally be revealed to the Doctor. The ending was suitable humorous as well, with the reason for the robots wanting Madame de Pompadour's head.

Episode: Rise of the Cybermen
Well...is it just me or did the Cybermen look more scary when their faces were sort of square and flat compared to this new rounded look they have? Just a minor point, but still...

Episode: Rise of the Cybermen & Age of Steel Rating: 8/10
Rise of the cybermen & the age of steel. Both episodes were very well writen and much better paced. As most of the episodes so far have been too rushed. Now these two although still rather rushed, paced much better than before. Still more character development can be done. The first part was by far the best, the second really just wrapped things up too much, too quickly. Also the cybermen's voices changed, they seemed camp in the first the second the sounded much more authoritative.

Episode: The Idiots Lantern
Oh dear. I'm pretty sure the Doctor's regenerating again...into Jim Carrey!! Does anyone else see the resemblance? I don't know if it was the fifties hairdo, or the slightly manic look in his eyes, or the fact that he has about as much energy as a puppy on Proplus, but there's definitely something there! Was very excited that I actually got to watch this episode at the same time as everyone else! Thought it was a nice touch that the action centred on "Florizel Street" - the original name of Coronation Street! Was a bit confused as to why the boy didn't get de-faced (is that a technical term?) in the TV shop though - did I miss something? I'm still not quite used to David Tennant's style - he's a little too (dare I say it?) one-dimensional for me. I think Christopher Eccleston brought more depth to the character and he evoked more empathy from me, and I prefer the moody but caring approach to the bouncy, smiley but essentially shallow approach....but perhaps that says more about my taste in men than anything else!! Anyway, I digress.....yeah it was a pretty good episode.

Episode: The Idiots Lantern Rating: 7/10
The Idiots Lantern; Very good, well made and a good script, the bit on confidential about a bad experience with transmitters was funny, shame it was cut. The episode was well produced, and came accross as a classic Who episode. Actually had me shocked at some points, a bit like TGITF. A good moral story at the end too, the boy didn't leave without a father in the end too!

Episode: The Imposible planet & The Satan Pit
Fantastic!! The Satan Pit was the best episode we've had for a while: dramatic, emotional, edge-of-the-seat stuff!
From: Adam
Episode: The Imposible planet & The Satan Pit Rating: 2/10
Worst episodes yet, The series is slowly getting worse from the dizzy heights of TCI. Scary? Scary? that wasn't friggin scary! That was as mild as Dr. who has ever gotten. The viewing figures are getting worse. Why is it the two parters that they are doing should be one parters, and the one parters(noteably "The idiots lantern", and TGITF) should be two parters, as there so rushed? cant more ideas and (secondary) charater development be put in?

Episode: Love And Monsters Rating: 3/10
Not much better, this week we saw Peter Kay feature as the evil slimy absorbo thingy. The episode was shown for the first time from the POV of neither the Doctor or his companion. Which was a change (welcomed or not is a different question). The joke at the end about the "sex life" well that was just plain dirty. Otherwise a little bit better than last week, at least it was written with a ending in mind.

Episode: Love And Monsters
You know Adam, just as I'm beginning to get into this series, it seems to be having the opposite effect on you! I thoroughly enjoyed "Love and Monsters", even though it was so different to the usual format. I think the phrase Russel T. Davies used was "experimental", and in my view it worked a treat. The lightheartedness and comedy moments were a nice contrast to the last two weeks, in which humour had taken a back seat to the more serious themes, so in that respect I think the episode was very well timed. Peter Kay was great, and it was good to see him, along with some other familiar faces, in this "special edition" style episode, rather than in a regular episode, which would have been a bit surreal. More references to Torchwood were perhaps over-played a little (yes, we know it's coming, do you really have to keep reminding us every week?), but there was also another mention of "Bad Wolf" - do you think this is going to play any further part in the series? Oh yes, and I for one rather liked the "sex life" gag!

Episode: Fear her Rating: 6/10
After last weeks crap performance I must say that todays episode was good, no in fact it was "FANTASTIC". This week shows that there doesn't need to be huge CGI elements to make the episode good, infact quite the opposite, this week had very few effects and managed to pull of as one of the best episodes this series, Well done. Although at times it did seem a bit tacky but I think that the script made up for huge ammounts of studio work. But was I the only one who thought that Chloe Webber was really iritating?.

Episode: Fear her
I agree! Great script, that kid was a great actress, just can't believe that the series is almost over already!

Episode: Army Of ghosts
This week I'm not going to do a full review as the episode spans two weeks, so this week I thought it was considerably better than last weeks trailer and that woman(don't remember her name) was really iritating though. Although parts were predictable it was good and made me jump in a few parts, can't wait for next week. Also the viewing figures should be extreemly high, as the football would've had a big effect.

Episode: Army Of ghosts & Doomsday Rating: 10/10
BEST EPISODE YET! This was proper Dr. Who, last weeks ep. was good, but this had it all. Daleks, Cybermen, and someone appearing inside the TARDIS, brilliant. An incredably emotional episode, with a touching ending, poor Rose, finally telling him, and vice versa, when it's too late.

Episode: Army Of ghosts & Doomsday
awww! Poor Rose! And poor Doctor - he was crying!! Very emotional ending - loved that her parents got a happy ending though.
