The review of The Oxford.

See for yourself what the Oxford is like. Another fantastic review of a pub in Manchester.

Description

The Oxford is a semi-student pub on the edge of the student campus on Oxford road, Manchester. It has a upstairs, a upstairs bar, no jukebox - so no urban music, and offers student discount on weekdays.

Benefits

Being on Oxford road, means if you have had a bad day studying then you can roll out of lectures, and 10 minutes later(estimated time) be in a nice pub. The majority is none-smoking, so no smelly smokey clothes when you leave. Being on Oxford road, there is also a regular supply of busses, so not long to wait after closing time to get back to OP. The atmosphere is usually quite okay, as it's mostly students in there.
The Oxford is open until quite late, this is usually until midnight ish, however serving cannot be guarenteed.
All tested drinks are on offer with no problems(Red wine, Guinness, Carlsberg, Reef, J2O and soft drinks).

Some good and some bad

Due to the fact that the toilets are not on the same floor as the bar, then there is a problem if you've been drinking, as you've got to navigate going up and down the stairs. There's no jukebox, that is usually a good thing as they dont play crappy music, but it does mean that you can't find out the name of the song just played, or choose your favourite decnent music.

And the just plain ugly

We've not really had any trouble with The Oxford, other than we were asked for ID once, and they didn't accept student cards(They were only covering there backs, but why not student cards eh?). The wine is a bit pricy, but I dont drink the stuff. Although live bands may well be considered good in many people's eyes, I don't see it as good. I find it a nussance to have to talk over the music. If I wanted live music then I would go over the road to the acadamy.

Guests in The Oxford

None that we know of, other than Fiona's brother(sorry can't remember his name).

In Summery

The Oxford is a very nice pub, even if the drinks can be a bit pricey. But we love it as a pub. Overall I recomend it to anyone.

In Numbers

Atmosphere: 9/10
Price: 4/10
